Nigerian music superstar Davido has lent his voice to the growing number of public figures showing support for controversial social media activist VeryDarkMan (VDM), following his recent arrest.
Taking to his verified account on X (formerly Twitter), the Grammy-nominated artist expressed admiration for the positive impact VDM has had on society, despite the controversies surrounding him. Davido praised the activist’s influence and celebrated the public support he is receiving.
“Outside all the noise, it’s good to see that the good one does actually impacts lives and people actually appreciate it. The support I’m seeing for VDM everywhere is encouraging… makes one want to do more for the masses.
FREE MY GUY,” Davido wrote.
This comes after VeryDarkMan was arrested in Abuja on Friday. The news was confirmed by his legal representative, Denise Adeyanju, who announced the arrest via his own X account. Although the full details surrounding the arrest remain unclear, it has sparked widespread concern on social media.
Veteran Nollywood actress Rita Edochie also joined the chorus of voices demanding his release. She described VDM as the only young Nigerian man who consistently speaks out for the people and warned that if his voice is silenced, no one else might be willing to step up.
“If VeryDarkMan is silenced, no one is ready to take his place in lending a voice to society,” she warned.
Davido’s public backing doesn’t come as a surprise to many fans, as he and VeryDarkMan have grown close over the past year, forming an unexpected bond despite working in different spheres of influence.
As the “Free VDM” calls continue to trend, fans and supporters await further updates regarding his arrest and potential release.
