“My daughter was traumatised because I hit her on the head with a bucket” – Mercy Aigbe opens up about parenting mistakes.

Nollywood actress Mercy Aigbe has stirred emotional reactions with her honest confession about a parenting mistake she made years ago.

Speaking during the premiere of her new film My Mother Is A Witch, the mother of two recounted a painful experience involving her daughter, Michelle. In an emotional speech, Mercy revealed that Michelle once expressed how she was traumatised by a childhood incident where she hit her with a bucket. The incident resurfaced years later while Michelle was studying in Canada. After Mercy repeatedly called her without a response, Michelle eventually picked up and reminded her of the painful memory.

Mercy admitted that although she was initially defensive, she later apologised to her daughter. She stressed the importance of parents having open conversations with their children. According to her, many adults today are still dealing with unresolved childhood trauma because African parents often refuse to admit their wrongs or apologise.

“I later apologised to her for the harsh upbringing. It is time parents start having conversations with their kids. We have a lot of damaged adults in society who have not healed from their childhood trauma. African parents are too proud to apologise,” she said.

Her candid speech has earned praise from many fans who commended her for speaking up on a subject that is often overlooked in African homes.
