"I’d Be St*pid to Marry an Actress" – Yoruba Actor Baraka Opens Up on His Struggles, Fame, and Industry Relationships

Yoruba actor Oluwole Akeem Cole, popularly known as Baraka, has revealed details about his journey to fame, the discipline behind his roles, and his firm stance on romantic relationships within Nollywood.

In a candid interview with FellRightNews, Baraka reflected on his humble beginnings. He developed a passion for acting during his childhood, often performing plays and skits during school holidays. However, his professional journey officially began in 1990.

Baraka shared that his big break came through Funke Akindele’s hit movie “Omo Ghetto,” though it wasn’t his face that drew attention—it was his distinct voice that made waves and got people talking.

"Sometimes, it’s not about starting with lead or supporting roles. For me, it was my voice in Omo Ghetto that went viral," he noted.

Despite often playing rough or streetwise characters, Baraka made it clear that he leads a clean lifestyle:

"Looking at me like this, I’ve only heard of cannabis (Igbo); I’ve never even seen it. I don’t smoke or drink alcohol."

He emphasized that many fans wrongly assume he lives recklessly because of how convincingly he portrays such roles. Baraka explained that his dedication to acting and professionalism is what makes his performances believable—not personal experience.

The actor also spoke frankly about romantic relationships in the movie industry. While admitting he once dated a fellow actress, he strongly ruled out ever marrying one.

"I would be stupid to marry an actress. Some of them are dating our bosses. I can’t endure seeing my wife have affairs with other men on set. I’d rather stay single," he said.

However, Baraka added that he holds no grudge against actors who find love within the industry. In fact, he praised such couples for their emotional resilience in managing relationships in the public eye.

The interview has sparked widespread reactions online, with many fans commending Baraka’s honesty, discipline, and dedication to his craft. His bold opinions on fame and industry romance have added fresh perspective to ongoing conversations about professionalism and personal boundaries in Nollywood.
