“Single mothers can’t raise boys into men” – Actor Jim Iyke reveals

Nollywood actor Jim Iyke has stirred controversy with his recent remarks about single mothers and their ability to raise boys into “proper men.”

Speaking in an interview, the actor argued that women, while naturally caring and nurturing, cannot fully provide the discipline and structure needed to shape boys into strong men. According to him, raising a boy requires the involvement of a trusted male figure.

Jim advised single mothers to seek support from reliable men such as a brother, father, or mentor, who can step in to provide guidance and discipline.

In his words: “A woman can’t raise a man. A single mother cannot raise a man properly. You need a male influence – your brother, your father, or any trusted man. There has to be a male presence in raising a boy. Women are naturally built to nurture and love, but without discipline, you’ll raise a weak man, like the ones who may have left you. A boy needs someone to discipline him, to say ‘No,’ and to put him through the grind.”

His statement has since triggered mixed reactions, with some agreeing that boys need male role models, while others criticized him for undermining the strength and sacrifices of single mothers.
