“I started my career at the age of 10; 65% of my fans are Igbo, not Yoruba” — Sir Shina Peters Gets Emotional as He Reflects on His Childhood

Legendary Nigerian musician, Sir Shina Peters, became emotional during a recent appearance on The Honest Bunch podcast while sharing deep reflections about his early life and the current state of the music industry.

The veteran juju star revealed that his journey started extremely early. He said he began his music career at just 10 years old, had his first child at 14, bought his first car at 13, and built his first house by the age of 16. Despite facing several court cases as a teenager, he said his passion for music and strong faith in God helped him stay focused.

Sir Shina also spoke proudly about his strong Igbo fanbase, noting that most of his support has always come from the eastern part of Nigeria. “About 65% of my fans are Igbos, not Yoruba. They kept asking me, ‘Give us another music,’” he said.

However, he expressed disappointment with the modern music scene, saying the new generation has “bastardized” what pioneers like him worked hard to build. He admitted that he finds it difficult to return to the studio because the current atmosphere no longer feels inspiring.

In closing, Sir Shina urged Nigerians to shift their attention from trivial matters and focus on fixing the country, emphasizing that the nation needs unity and direction more than ever.
