Popular comedian and activist Mr Macaroni has reflected on the tragic events of October 20, 2020, at the Lekki Tollgate, where peaceful #EndSARS protesters were allegedly attacked by security forces.
In a heartfelt post shared on Instagram, the comedian remembered the young Nigerians who lost their lives, jobs, and dreams while standing up against police brutality.
He wrote:
“Nigerian youths lost their lives, jobs, families, and dreams at the hands of the most corrupt and evil people we call leaders! Even though some of us are deeply in love with our oppressors, this day, 20/10/2020, is never to be forgotten nor forgiven!”
The #EndSARS movement, which began as a call to end police misconduct, became one of the largest youth-led protests in Nigeria’s history. The Lekki Tollgate incident remains one of the most painful memories of that movement, as eyewitnesses claimed security operatives fired live bullets at demonstrators.
Many Nigerians joined Mr Macaroni in commemorating the anniversary, emphasizing that justice and accountability must still be pursued for the victims.
