“PDP Is Dead, Three More Governors Will Defect to APC,” Fayose Declares

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is “dead” and beyond recovery. He made the statement during an interview on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television.

Fayose said he would not be part of any effort to revive the party, insisting that the PDP’s collapse was caused by its own leaders. He also dismissed claims that President Bola Tinubu was pressuring opposition governors to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to him, the recent exit of Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri and Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah from the PDP was based on their personal political interests, not presidential influence.

“President Tinubu should not be blamed for PDP’s problems. The PDP is sick and remains perpetually sick without a cure. Those who killed the party know themselves,” Fayose said.

Despite still holding a PDP membership card, Fayose revealed that three more governors are preparing to leave the party, which would reduce its number of governors to just five.

He added that even the remaining governors are not united and could soon face more internal crises.

“There will be five remaining. One of them will struggle to get the ticket. And they all know that the ticket is an ordinary tissue paper,” he stated.

Fayose’s comments have stirred fresh debate about the future of the PDP, once Nigeria’s dominant political party.
