“I Skipped School for an Ibadan Show in 2011” — Davido Reflects on His Humble Beginnings!

Music superstar Davido has shared an emotional throwback about his humble beginnings and rise to global fame.

The Grammy-nominated artist took to X (formerly Twitter) to recall how, back in 2011, he skipped school to perform in Ibadan alongside Asa, Peju, B-Red, and Sina on the Lynxxx and Friends Tour. He revealed that the performance was unexpectedly aired on Soundcity — an event that got him into serious trouble with his father at the time.

“In 2011, I skipped school to perform in Ibadan… I had no idea it was going to air on Soundcity, and when my pops saw it, I got in so much trouble,” Davido wrote.

Fast-forward 14 years later, the singer has returned to the same city as part of his 5ive Alive Tour, performing to a massive crowd and completely filling up the stadium.

Davido expressed gratitude for his journey, describing the tour as “one for the books” and encouraging his fellow artists to invest in Nigeria and give back to their communities.

“To my peers, let’s build back home and give back to our roots,” he added.

The 5ive Alive Tour continues with stops in Abuja and Lagos, and Davido will wrap up the month with a special birthday performance at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta on November 20th, just a day before he turns a year older.
