“Wizkid Started Before Me!” – Olamide Opens Up on Music Rivalry and Head Start

Nigerian music star Olamide Baddo has acknowledged that fellow artist Wizkid, 35, has been in the music scene longer than him. Both artists rose to fame around 2010, with Wizkid gaining recognition through his hit track Holla At Your Boy in January, while Olamide made his breakthrough a few months later with Eni Duro. Their early success also saw them competing for the Next Rated category at the 2011 Headies Awards, an honor that ultimately went to Wizkid.

Speaking in an interview with streamer Azeeez, Olamide clarified the timeline:

“Wizkid and I didn’t start doing music at the same time. He began a year or two before me and was already releasing songs before I came onto the scene.”

It’s notable that Wizkid had earlier featured on M.I’s 2008 track Fast Money/Fast Cars, predating his mainstream breakthrough by about two years, giving him a clear head start in the industry.
