The head coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Eric Chelle, has announced plans to adjust his tactics for the team’s next 2025 Africa Cup of Nations fixture against Tunisia.
Chelle is known for favouring the diamond 4-4-2 formation. Nigeria started with this formation in their 2-1 win over Tanzania’s Taifa Stars on Tuesday but switched to a 4-3-3 formation in the second half.
Although the West Africans dominated the match and created several scoring opportunities, they struggled defensively, with midfielders failing to provide adequate protection for the backline. After the game, Chelle admitted that some of his choices during the match were not ideal.
Looking ahead to the Tunisia game, the coach is considering new strategies. Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Chelle said:
"In my mind I have two options: the first is maybe to let Tunisia have the ball or, when we get the ball back, we go direct, or we continue with our philosophy."
Chelle’s comments suggest that the Super Eagles may see tactical adjustments aimed at strengthening their defence while maintaining their attacking approach in the upcoming fixture.
