Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, has made it clear that he will retire from active politics after completing his tenure as governor.
The governor said he has no plans to run for president, vice president, or senator after leaving office. He stated this on Friday at the Government House in Umuahia while reacting to a viral video that accused him of nursing higher political ambitions.
The video alleged that Otti’s recent visit to Nnamdi Kanu at the Sokoto Correctional Centre was linked to a plan to contest for president or vice president in the future. However, the governor dismissed the claim, saying it was based on wrong assumptions.
According to Otti, differing opinions are part of democracy, but having an opinion does not always mean it is correct. He stressed that he has repeatedly said he would step away from politics after his time as governor.
“I came on a mission, and when I complete that mission, I will give way for younger people,” he said. He added that he does not understand the idea of an “Igbo presidency” being linked to him, insisting that his name will not appear on any future ballot.
Governor Otti’s statement has put to rest speculations about his political future, as he reaffirmed his commitment to serving Abia State and retiring afterward.
