Nigeria’s First Lady, Remi Tinubu, has responded to the criticism surrounding her brief interaction with Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, saying the issue has been blown out of proportion.
In a statement posted on her Facebook page on Tuesday, Mrs Tinubu said that people often exaggerate minor incidents and create unnecessary drama around leaders. She noted that those in leadership understand their responsibilities, while followers and critics tend to overanalyze every move.
Her comment follows a viral video from the 10th coronation anniversary of the Ooni of Ife, where Governor Adeleke paused during his speech after breaking into a short song. Mrs Tinubu walked up to the podium, signaled him, and whispered something to him — a moment that stirred widespread online reactions.
She dismissed the uproar, describing it as a “needless controversy,” and ended her statement with the Yoruba phrase “Ọṣun lè tèǹtẹ̀”, meaning Osun is ahead.
This is her first public reaction since the video went viral.
