US Launches Strikes Against ISIS in Northeast Nigeria, Trump Highlights Protection of Christians

The United States Department of War has released footage showing strikes against ISIS terrorists in northeast Nigeria. The announcement follows US President Donald Trump’s statement on Thursday that the country had conducted a “powerful and deadly” operation targeting Islamic State forces.

The video released by the US shows at least one projectile being launched from a warship. In a Christmas evening post on his social media platform, Truth Social, President Trump described the operation as aimed at ISIS militants “who have been targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians.” He wrote:

"Tonight, at my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS Terrorist Scum in Northwest Nigeria, who have been targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians, at levels not seen for many years, and even centuries!"

Trump did not provide detailed information about the damage caused by the strikes.

The US Africa Command confirmed the airstrikes through a press release, stating that the operation took place in Sokoto State. The strikes were carried out under the orders of President Trump and the Secretary of War, in coordination with Nigerian authorities. According to the press release, multiple ISIS militants were killed during the operation.

The released footage has drawn international attention, highlighting the US military’s ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in West Africa.
