Portable in Tears as Ogun State High Court Arraigns Him Over Alleged Attack on Ashabi, Assault, Felony, and Other Charges

Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been arraigned before an Ogun State High Court following his recent arrest.

Reports revealed that the singer was allegedly arrested with the involvement of his actress babymama, Ashabi. In a video that circulated online, Portable was seen struggling to escape while a group of people held him tightly.

Another video shared on X (formerly Twitter) showed the street-pop singer sitting in handcuffs and crying uncontrollably. In the clip, he was heard claiming that his mother was sick, a moment that drew mixed reactions on social media.

In an update on the case, Portable was arraigned at the High Court sitting in Onipanu on several charges, including assault, felony occasioning harm, and resisting arrest. He was accused of attacking one of his wives, Ashabi, and obstructing a female police officer, Inspector Ogungbe Olayemi, while she was carrying out her official duties. The singer was also alleged to have assaulted other individuals at his Odogwu bar on New Year’s Day.

Although Ashabi was not present in court, her siblings appeared as witnesses. Portable reportedly became emotional during the court session and broke down in tears.

His lawyer applied for bail, but the judge refused to grant it at the time, stating that the assaulted police officer was not present in court. The judge explained that he needed to see the officer before making a decision on the bail request.

Portable has been remanded in custody and is expected to return to court on January 19, when his bail application will be considered.
