Sunday Igboho returns to Nigeria after his name is cleared from the wanted list.

Yoruba nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has returned to Nigeria after his name was removed from the list of wanted individuals.

Igboho arrived from self-exile in Cotonou, Benin Republic, and was warmly received at his residence in Soka, Ibadan. Supporters, Muslim clerics, and well-wishers gathered to welcome him back, offering prayers for his safe return. Prayers were also said for President Bola Tinubu and traditional rulers who played roles in resolving his case.

While speaking to supporters, an emotional Igboho shed tears as he recalled his experience under the administration of late President Muhammadu Buhari. He said he was declared wanted, denied access to a Nigerian passport, and had his bank accounts frozen, despite court rulings in his favour.

His return marks another major moment since he fled Nigeria on July 1, 2021, following a raid on his Ibadan home by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Army over allegations of arms stockpiling. He had briefly returned in 2024 to attend his late mother’s burial.

After his latest return, Igboho proceeded to the palace of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, where he was warmly welcomed by supporters. The monarch prayed for him and wished him continued success.

Speaking at the palace, Igboho expressed deep gratitude to God, President Bola Tinubu, and Oba Rashidi Ladoja, whom he described as instrumental to his freedom. He revealed that Oba Ladoja had been checking on him while he was in Cotonou and personally appealed to the President on his behalf, leading to his clearance.

Igboho also thanked other Yoruba elders who supported him during his ordeal. He urged Yoruba people to remain united and work together for the progress of the region. He added that he believes President Bola Tinubu is making efforts to improve security across the country.

The return of Sunday Igboho has continued to draw attention and reactions, especially among his supporters across the South-West.
