FAAN Bans Cash Transactions at Nigerian Airports from February 28

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced a ban on cash transactions at all Nigerian airports, effective February 28.

The decision was made public in a statement signed by FAAN’s Director of Public Relations and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, on Thursday in Lagos. According to the statement, the clarification became necessary after leaders of major aviation unions visited FAAN’s management on Wednesday to seek more details about the planned end to cash payments at airports.

The unions involved in the discussions include the National Union of Air Transport Employees, the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, and the Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals.

Agbebire explained that the meeting allowed for open discussions between FAAN and the unions, showing the agency’s commitment to involving stakeholders in major decisions.

FAAN’s Managing Director, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, stated that the authority is fully prepared to implement a cashless payment system at all airport payment points across the country. She said the move aligns with global best practices in aviation management and follows directives from the Federal Government.

With this new policy, passengers and airport users will be expected to make payments through electronic channels as FAAN moves to modernize its operations nationwide.
