The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of police officers accused of assaulting and robbing popular skit maker, Ganiyu Morufu, also known as Ijoba Lande.
In a statement shared on X, the police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the officers involved have been identified and brought before the command for investigation. According to her, both the officers, the actor, and his friend are currently giving their statements.
“The officers involved have been identified and brought forward to the Command for investigation. At the moment, both the officers, the actor, and his friend are giving their statements. Further developments will be communicated accordingly,” the statement read, with the hashtag #SayNoToImpunity.
This development comes after Ijoba Lande raised an alarm in a viral video, where he accused officers attached to the Area ‘J’ Division of the Lagos State Police Command of assaulting him, seizing his mobile phone, and stealing money belonging to his brother.
In the video, the skit maker was seen with visible injuries, including blood around his eyes, while people around him tried to clean his face with water. The footage also showed him inside what appeared to be a police station, where he seemed to be reporting the incident.
Ijoba Lande claimed that during the encounter, the officers beat him, took his iPhone 16 Pro Max, and allegedly stole $1,200 belonging to his brother. The incident sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians calling for justice.
The police have assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that updates will be provided as the case progresses.
