Mohbad’s Family Raises Concerns Over DNA Test Laboratories for Son Liam

The legal team representing the family of the late singer Mohbad has raised concerns about the suitability of some laboratories chosen to conduct the paternity test of his son, Liam.

In a statement obtained on Tuesday, signed by the family’s lawyer, Oladayo Ogungbe, on behalf of the applicant, Joseph Aloba, the counsel highlighted issues regarding the technical capacity of the labs tasked with DNA analysis.

According to the statement, a court ordered on February 24, 2026, that the Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) test be conducted in three laboratories agreed upon by the parties and the court to ensure transparency and credibility.

The selected laboratories are:

DNA Diagnostics Centre, Fairfield, Ohio, United States – nominated by the applicant;

Alpha Biolabs, Warrington, United Kingdom – nominated by the respondent;

Advanced Histopathology Laboratory Limited, London, United Kingdom – appointed by the court via the Social Welfare Officer.

Before sample collection, representatives of the applicant conducted preliminary checks to confirm the laboratories’ ability to perform post-mortem DNA testing, particularly involving tissue extraction from embalmed remains.

The checks revealed that Alpha Biolabs and Advanced Histopathology Laboratory Limited do not conduct post-mortem DNA testing on embalmed bodies, raising concerns about their capacity to handle the analysis.

Ogungbe confirmed that these concerns were formally reported to the court through an affidavit. He emphasised that it is incorrect and misleading to suggest that Joseph Aloba deliberately chose incompetent laboratories. He reaffirmed the applicant’s commitment to a transparent and scientifically credible DNA testing process that complies fully with the court’s directive.

The legal team also highlighted that only one of the laboratories was nominated by the applicant, underlining their dedication to a fair and credible testing procedure for Mohbad’s son, Liam.
