The Lagos State Government has announced partial traffic diversions ahead of the commissioning of critical infrastructure projects on Wednesday, April 8, and Thursday, April 9. The announcement was made in a statement issued on Tuesday by the State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi.
Mr. Osiyemi explained that the temporary road closures are necessary to ensure safety and smooth conduct of the events. Motorists have been advised to plan their movements carefully and avoid affected areas during the specified periods to minimise traffic disruptions and delays.
Wednesday, April 8 – Opebi-Mende Link Bridge Commissioning:
The Opebi-Mende Link Bridge will be commissioned between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., affecting traffic around Opebi-Allen, Ikeja, and Ojota. The government urged all motorists transiting these corridors during the specified hours to seek alternative routes to avoid congestion and ensure timely arrival at their destinations.
Thursday, April 9 – Multiple Commissioning Events:
Morning Event (9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.): The Tolu Schools Complex will be commissioned, affecting traffic in Olodi Apapa and Ajegunle. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes and allow extra travel time.
Evening Event (4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.): Another commissioning will take place at Eko Hotel and nearby Victoria Island. Motorists should avoid the area or expect delays.
The statement added that officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other traffic enforcement personnel will be deployed to manage traffic and assist road users. Additionally, 500 extra LASTMA officers have been deployed, as President Bola Tinubu is expected to attend the events.
