Lagos Task Force Launches Anti-Crime Patrol Unit to Tackle Insecurity

The Lagos State Task Force has launched a new anti-crime patrol unit aimed at tackling criminal activities and environmental violations across Lagos.

The development comes after the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, placed a ban on the agency’s enforcement of traffic violations in the state.

According to the task force, the newly introduced unit will operate round the clock as a proactive measure to detect, prevent, and stop criminal activities before they pose a threat to public safety.

Chairman of the agency, Adetayo Akerele, stated that the initiative is necessary to remove criminal elements threatening residents and visitors. He explained that the unit will act as a rapid response team responsible for arresting and prosecuting offenders.

The unit will target crimes such as drug peddling, street violence, activities of area boys (also known as Omotaku), “one-chance” robbery syndicates, attacks on government officials, environmental offences like littering, and other illegal activities.

Akerele assured that the task force is committed to reducing crime in the state, promising increased surveillance and patrols in identified hotspots. He warned that authorities will take strong action against criminals, forcing them to either stop their activities or leave the state.

The agency also urged residents to support security efforts by providing useful information to help law enforcement agencies maintain safety and order across Lagos.
