Power Minister Adelabu Set to Resign After Tinubu’s Approval for Oyo Governorship Bid

Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, is expected to resign from his position in the coming days after receiving approval to contest the Oyo State governorship election.

The approval was granted by Bola Tinubu during a meeting held on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. During the meeting, Adelabu also briefed the President on developments in the power sector since he assumed office over two years ago.

According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Strategic Communications and Media Relations, Tunji Bolaji, the President gave the minister the go-ahead to pursue his political ambition, clearing the path for his exit from the Federal Executive Council.

The statement added that Adelabu will formally step down after completing key ongoing engagements to ensure continuity in reforms within the power sector.

His planned resignation comes at a time when the electricity sector continues to face challenges, including unstable power generation, gas supply issues, infrastructure repairs, and financial obligations within the system.

The development has drawn attention from stakeholders, as many await further updates on both his resignation and political plans.
