President Bola Tinubu made guests laugh after giving his wife, First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, a playful new nickname during the Presidential Press Corps Dinner held at the State House in Abuja.
While delivering his speech and recognizing important guests at the event, the President jokingly referred to the First Lady as “Iya Alakara,” a Yoruba phrase that means “Mama Akara Seller.” The light-hearted comment immediately drew laughter and reactions from the audience.
A video shared by Aso Rock TV on YouTube captured the moment. President Tinubu was seen smiling as he greeted members of the press and other dignitaries before turning his attention to his wife. He said, “Good evening, gentlemen of the press, ladies and gentlemen, my dear wife, the First Lady, Iya Alakara.”
The nickname appeared to be a humorous reference to the recent public discussion surrounding Senator Oluremi Tinubu’s comments about small-scale businesses, particularly akara sellers. His joke added a relaxed and cheerful moment to the dinner, with many guests responding with laughter.
