Lagos State House of Assembly member Desmond Elliot has publicly apologised to Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, following a disagreement that arose during the last All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election in Lagos.
In a video that has gone viral on social media, Elliot was seen kneeling before Gbajabiamila and pleading for forgiveness. He also appeared to seek reconciliation and reintegration into the APC structure in Lagos.
While appealing to the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Elliot expressed regret over his actions and admitted that he had no excuse for what happened.
He said: “I’m sorry, I have no excuse, I have nothing other than to say I’m deeply sorry and I am hoping to be cultured in the future.”
The apology comes months after tensions reportedly emerged between Elliot and the APC leadership following the party’s primary election for the Surulere Constituency I seat in May.
Elliot had withdrawn from the primary, alleging intimidation and political pressure against his supporters. He subsequently rejected the outcome and indicated that he would challenge the process through the party’s appeal mechanism.
However, the actor-turned-politician eventually lost the APC ticket to Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, who was widely believed to have the backing of Gbajabiamila.
Odunuga-Bakare secured 11,385 votes, while Elliot polled only 270 votes during the primary.
The latest development suggests an attempt by Elliot to mend fences with the APC leadership and restore his relationship with key figures within the party’s Lagos structure.
