Veteran Nollywood actor Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) has called on Nigerians to go beyond complaining about the country’s challenges and actively contribute to finding solutions.
RMD made the call while speaking at the 2026 Pivot Nigeria Conference, held on Tuesday, September 29, at the MUSON Centre in Lagos.
The conference focused on Nigeria’s image and the impact of the country’s reputation on its citizens, businesses and opportunities.
Speaking on the need for collective responsibility, RMD acknowledged that Nigeria has numerous challenges but stressed that citizens should not limit themselves to criticising the problems without suggesting or supporting practical solutions.
According to the veteran actor, Nigerians also need to hold their leaders accountable and demand responsibility from those elected or appointed to represent them.
“There are problems, but we need to fix them. Don’t stand and just criticise and propose no solution.”
RMD further stated that citizens have a responsibility to ensure that leaders understand they are accountable to the people they represent.
The actor also emphasised that nation-building is not solely the responsibility of politicians. He urged ordinary Nigerians to recognise their role in shaping the country’s image, particularly through their actions and conduct.
“Just remember who you are. You are an ambassador, not just for yourself, your parents or your school, but ultimately for your country.”
While acknowledging the difficulties facing Nigeria, RMD urged citizens to remain patient and committed to the country’s development.
He described Nigeria as a “work in progress”, stressing that meaningful change would require continued effort rather than expecting immediate results.
“We are a country, we’re a work in progress, and we must continue just doing the work,” he stated.
