Afrobeats star Davido has fired back at fellow Nigerian rapper Erigga following a social media post that appeared to draw a comparison between musicians who come from wealthy families and those who had to struggle their way to success.
The drama began after Erigga gave a special shout-out to artistes who were not born into wealthy families and had to work hard for every dollar they earned.
“Shout-out to all the musicians who don’t come from family money and had to grind for every single dollar they earn.”
Although Erigga did not mention any name, the post was widely interpreted as a subtle shade at Davido, who comes from a wealthy family.
Davido, however, was quick to respond, making it clear that coming from a privileged background does not mean a person cannot work hard to achieve success. The singer gave a shout-out to people who come from family money but still put in the effort required to reach the top.
In a strongly worded response, Davido appeared to take a direct swipe at Erigga, questioning why he seemed to blame others for the financial background they were born into.
“No be we say make your pops no guard o. Shout-out to the ones that came from family money and still grind to the top.”
Davido did not stop there, as he dismissed Erigga’s post as “useless motivation” and insulted the rapper in the process.
“Comot here with that your useless motivation. Imbecile.”
The exchange has since stirred reactions online, with social media users divided over the argument. While some agreed with Erigga’s message about celebrating musicians who built their careers without family wealth, others sided with Davido, arguing that being born into a wealthy family does not automatically guarantee success.
The clash has once again sparked conversations about privilege, hard work, family wealth, and the different paths artistes take to achieve success in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
