Nollywood actress Faithia Williams has paid an emotional tribute to her late colleague and veteran actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, during his 8-day Fidau prayer.
Taiwo Hassan reportedly died on Sunday, August 23, after battling stage-four cancer. His daughter announced his death in a live video, sending shockwaves through the Yoruba movie industry.
The veteran actor was buried the following day according to Islamic rites, with several of his colleagues, friends and family members in attendance.
During the 8-day Fidau prayer held in his honour, Faithia Williams reflected on her personal relationship with the late actor and the important role he played in her life and career.
Speaking at the gathering, Faithia described Taiwo Hassan as her boss, revealing that he made a significant contribution to her development as a person when she returned from London to Nigeria and joined Odunfa, a prominent Yoruba theatre and film group.
According to the actress, Taiwo Hassan was among those who warmly welcomed her when she returned to the country and became part of the group. She recalled how he stood by her and made her feel accepted during that period.
Faithia said:
“Ogogo wasn’t just a boss to me; he was someone who contributed greatly to my person when I came back from London to Nigeria and joined Odunfa. He was there for me, and I was greatly and warmly welcomed.”
She went on to describe the late actor as an honest, peaceful and irreplaceable person, highlighting the qualities she admired about him during his lifetime.
Faithia’s tribute adds to the growing number of emotional testimonies from Taiwo Hassan’s colleagues, many of whom have continued to speak about his kindness, support and influence within the Yoruba entertainment industry.
For Faithia, Ogogo’s legacy goes beyond his achievements as an actor, as she remembers him as a senior colleague who welcomed her, supported her and contributed meaningfully to her journey in the industry.
