Wike Vows to Resign as FCT Minister If Tinubu Loses FCT and Rivers in 2027

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has vowed to resign from his position if President Bola Tinubu loses the 2027 presidential election in both the FCT and Rivers State.

Wike made the declaration while speaking with leaders and members of the Apo Mechanics and Traders Association in Abuja. He said his continued stay as FCT Minister would be difficult to justify if he failed to deliver electoral support for the President in the two areas he considers his primary political spheres of influence.

According to Wike, the presidential election is scheduled for January 16, 2027, and he would announce his resignation the following day if Tinubu fails to win both the FCT and Rivers State.

“If I cannot deliver where I work, then I’m not worthy to be here.”

He further stated that the FCT is where he currently works, while Rivers State is his home state, stressing that he would take responsibility for the electoral outcome in both territories.

Wike also disclosed that efforts were underway to build a multi-party “Rainbow Coalition” in the FCT ahead of the election. He said the coalition would mobilise support across different political parties for Tinubu and candidates contesting legislative positions in the territory.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially scheduled the presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027, while the governorship and State House of Assembly elections are scheduled for February 6, 2027.
