The Federal Ministry of Health confirmed a coronavirus disease (COVID-19) case in Lagos State, Nigeria. The case, which was affirmed on the 27th of February 2020, is the first case to be accounted for in Nigeria since the start of the outbreak in China in January 2020.
The case is an Italian citizen who works in Nigeria and came back from Milan, Italy to Lagos, Nigeria on the 25th of February 2020. He was affirmed by the Virology Laboratory of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, part of the Laboratory Network of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control. The patient is clinically stable, with no serious symptoms, and is being managed at the Infectious Disease Hospital in Yaba, Lagos.
Days after the confirmation, Nollywood actress, Kemi Afolabi has taken to her Instagram page to guide and give advice on the corona virus.
While sharing a video of herself talking about the corona virus, she wrote:
"Corona virus is contagious and leaves everyone at risk of contacting it.
It is spread through direct contact with people who are already infected with the virus.
Maintain at least three feet of distance from people who are COUGHING, SNEEZING or have FEVER.
Where ur mask 😷 and hand gloves 🧤 whenever you’re in a crowded place.
Keep your homes clean, wash your hands and rub sanitizer always.
