Five Nollywood Stars Who Died In January 2021


Nigerian film industry has recorded at least five deaths in the last 30 days.

1. Ernest Asuzu

On the evening of Tuesday 26 January 2021, veteran Nollywood actor Ernest Asuzu died.

His wife, Jennifer Asuzu, who confirmed to The Nation the sad incident, said he fainted and never woke up on Tuesday evening.

2. Mrs. Folake Aremu (Orisabunmi)

Ms. Folake Aremu, popularly named Orisabunmi, was a popular Yoruba actress who died on January 5, 2021.

A family source confirmed her death, which threw the theatre industry into sadness.

The veteran actress, a native of Olla in Kwara State, died at the age of 60 at her home in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Her death came four months after the death of her former husband, Jimoh Aliu, popularly called Aworo under whose tutelage she rose to prominence in the film industry.

3. Dan Nkoloagu

Dan Nkoloagu, a Nollywood veteran actor, died on January 22, 2021.

On his Facebook page, his son, Dan Nkoloagu Jnr, announced his death.

“IT WAS A BLACK FRIDAY FOR US YESTERDAY as my Dad left us without saying goodbye.”

In many Igbo movies, Nkoloagu, who died at 83, was famous for playing the role of a native doctor.

4. Jim Lawson Maduike

A Nollywood veteran actor, Jim Lawson Maduike, died on January 9, 2021.

The Imo-born thespian gave the ghost up after complaining of severe body pains.

He joined the movie industry in 2004, where he acted in several movies.

5. David Mela

David Mela was a fast-growing Nollywood star. He died of an unidentified illness on January 11, 2021.

The young actor was said to have gone through a tough period in his life, as reported by a post before his untimely death.
