Hushpuppi, a Nigerian fraudster who was apprehended in the United States, will be sentenced on February 14, 2022.
According to BBC Pidgin, the United States Attorney's Office in the Central District of California verified this, as did Thom Mrozek, the court's Director of Media Relations.
Hushpuppi pled guilty to several offenses including online fraud and money laundering, according to a plea bargain document signed by him, his lawyer, Loius Shapiro, and Acting United States Attorney, Tracy Wilkison.
He's also accused of conducting a $14.7 million cyber-heist alongside North Korean military hackers Jon Chang Hyok, Kim Il, and Park Jin Hyok, as well as a Canadian colleague.
Hushuppi faces a 20-year prison term, a three-year supervised release period, and a fine of $500,000 or double the gross gain or loss resulting from the offense.
DCP Abba Kyari, the suspended Head of the Intelligence Response Team, had been ordered by the same court to be arrested for his suspected participation in a $1 million fraud allegedly conducted by Hushpuppi and five others.
