Battle For The Throne, Alaafin of Oyo, 20 Princes Set to be Screened For The Kingmakers

After Oba Lamide Adeyemi's death on April 22 at the age of 83, no less than 20 princes from the Owoade royal dynasty expressed interest in replacing him as Alaafin of Oyo.

The Owoade ruling family is one of two governing families under the Agunloye Ruling House, according to the family's Mogaji, Prince Adediwura Owoade.

He added that the family has set up a registry where any interested family members may enter their names and curriculum vitae.

The Mogaji stated that the family will call the vice-chancellor of one of the local institutions to screen the candidates in order to submit the best candidate to the Oyo Mesi, the kingmakers.

"Twenty princes from the Owoade Ruling Family have shown an interest in succeeding Alaafin. "However, as I previously stated, we will filter them and offer just the finest,"

he told PUNCH.
