Funmi Awelewa made the decision to honor her mother by posting beautiful comments and pictures on her Instagram.
She wrote:
“Maami Thank you for being the first place my heart could call home. The hands that held me first are still the ones that hold me when I feel lost. Dear Mom, I’m sorry for the worry that I have ever put you through as I learned my mistakes and you still helped carry me through. I love you and thank you for everything. When I fell and cried, mom, you were always there to pray and cry with me to make it go away. It is because of you, that I am stronger. Your Prayers keeps me going… Thank you!”

She added: “As I’ve grown older, I realize all you give up for me and I hope to do the same for you. I hope to make you happy for the rest of your life. For all the times you have given things to my siblings and i, all the times you sold your best clothes just to feed us, for all the times you couldn’t meet up standards with your friends because you want to give us best life, it is time for me to start giving back to you, Moinmi. Thank you for giving me wings so that I may try to learn how to fly even though you sometimes have to catch me when I fall. I only soar higher, mom, because of you.
