The burial committee, responsible for organizing the event, took the opportunity to publicly urge Adunni Ade to return the N250,000 owed to Murphy Afolabi. They explicitly called upon her, stating, "Adunni Ade, please return the N250,000 that you are owing the Late Murphy Afolabi."

According to her statement, Murphy Afolabi had approached her for a job last year and paid her an amount of N150,000.
