Historic Moment as 70-Year-Old Ugandan Woman Gives Birth to Twins Through IVF

In a groundbreaking achievement, 70-year-old Safina Namukwaya of Uganda delivers twins – a boy and a girl – through successful In vitro fertilisation (IVF) treatment. The historic caesarean delivery took place at the Women’s Hospital International and Fertility Centre in Kampala.

The hospital announces the remarkable event on its Facebook page, celebrating the strength and resilience of Namukwaya. This marks her second delivery in three years, having given birth to a girl in 2020.

Namukwaya shares the challenges she faced during the pregnancy, including the father's desertion, highlighting societal stigma for being childless. Despite uncertainties about raising the children, she expresses happiness after enduring years of ridicule.

This accomplishment positions Namukwaya as the oldest woman in Africa to give birth, emphasizing the significance of medical success and the human spirit's triumph.
