Grammy Award-Winner Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has stirred online discussions with his recent onstage remarks about the renowned "Big 3" in Nigerian music. Traditionally, the "Big 3" comprises Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy, recognized for their significant global contributions to Afrobeats.
During a recent performance, Burna Boy challenged the widely accepted idea, asserting that he does not consider himself part of the so-called Big 3. Instead, he suggested there are only two significant figures: Wizkid and Davido, with himself excluded. Burna Boy emphasized that he operates on a distinct level, separate from the perceived competition between Wizkid and Davido.
In his words, Burna Boy stated, “Next time anybody tells you about anything called the ‘big 3’, tell them there’s only the ‘big 2’ and then, there’s Burna Boy.” This statement has sparked conversations among music enthusiasts, prompting a reevaluation of the traditional concept of the "Big 3" in the Nigerian music scene.
