DSS advises Organised Labour to cancel planned protest

The Department of State Services (DSS) has called on Organised Labour to reconsider its planned nationwide protest scheduled for February 27th and 28th, 2024, in the interest of maintaining peace and stability.

In a statement released on Wednesday, signed by Dr. Peter Afunanya, the DSS Director of Public Relations and Strategic Communications, the agency acknowledged the right of the labour movement to protest but urged them to refrain from initiating a strike that could potentially disrupt the country's current situation.

The statement emphasized the importance of dialogue and negotiation over actions that could escalate tensions, particularly as there are concerns about certain elements intending to exploit the protests to incite violence and unrest.

The DSS highlighted the efforts being made by various levels of government and stakeholders to address economic challenges, urging citizens to allow these efforts to take effect before resorting to drastic measures.

Quoting the esteemed poet JP Clark, the statement cautioned against the dangers of escalated conflicts, emphasizing that in times of trouble, everyone suffers.
