Shock in Abuja as Cement Price Soars to N15,000

A recent market survey conducted across various locations including Gwarimpa, Kubwa, Lugbe, and Dawaki reveals a significant increase in cement prices. Dangote cement now stands at N10,000 for a 50kg bag, while BUA cement is priced at N15,000.

Retailers in different areas corroborated the findings, with Yinka Adebayo from Gwarimpa stating that Dangote cement is being sold at N10,000 and BUA at N15,000. A similar sentiment was echoed by Rukiyat Abdullahi in Kubwa, who reported prices of N10,200 for Dangote cement and N16,000 for BUA.

In Lugbe, retailers affirmed the prices of Dangote and BUA cement at N10,000 and N15,000, respectively.

The steep increase in cement prices has raised concerns, prompting Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Musa Dangiwa, to express dismay. He emphasized that the surge in prices, which cannot be attributed solely to fluctuations in the dollar exchange rate, is unacceptable.

As stakeholders grapple with the implications of soaring cement prices, consumers and industry players await further developments and potential interventions to address the issue.
