The Nollywood Actress Who Sprayed New Naira Notes At Party Gets 6-month Jail

Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has sentenced actress Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin to six months imprisonment for tampering with new naira notes at a social event in Lagos State. Omoseyin had initially pleaded "not guilty" to two-count charges brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) but changed her plea to "guilty" during the hearing due to overwhelming evidence.

The charges included an incident on January 28, 2023, where Omoseyin sprayed N100,000 in violation of the Central Bank Act, 2007. The EFCC presented evidence, including videos from the event and a forensic report of the actress's phone. The defense pleaded for leniency, emphasizing Omoseyin's remorse and first-time offender status.

Justice Aneke, while convicting Omoseyin, imposed a six-month prison sentence with an option of a N300,000 fine, effective immediately. The fine is to be paid into the consolidated revenue account of the federation.
