Shocking Discovery: Newborn Abandoned at Ekiti Government House Entrance

A distressing incident unfolded at the Government House in the Fajuyi area of Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State, as a newborn baby was found abandoned at the entrance.

The baby, wrapped in cloth and estimated to be of unknown age, was discovered by an official from the Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN), Ekiti State Command, around 8 pm on Sunday, March 10.

Eyewitnesses recounted hearing the baby's cries, prompting concern among passersby who eventually located the source of the noise. Despite initial hesitation, they approached and discovered the abandoned infant.

Confirming the incident, Patriot Mathew Okotie, Commandant of the Peace Corps, Ekiti Command, disclosed that one of his officers discovered the baby along Bank Road in the Fajuyi area. Following the rescue, the baby was promptly taken to the police headquarters and then transferred to a police clinic for medical attention.

Subsequently, the baby was referred to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) for comprehensive medical treatment and documentation. The abandonment of the infant has raised concerns about child welfare and the need for community support in safeguarding vulnerable members.
