The Nigerian public's reaction to a viral video featuring Joseph Aloba, Mohbad's father, soliciting donations to a newly established GoFundMe account, has been mixed. Aloba clarified in the video that the account was set up for Nigerians interested in seeking justice for his son, with the donated funds intended for that purpose.
In the video, Aloba stated: "Good day Nigerians, thank you for your support and your constant clamor of justice for my son. Please, I beg you all, the GoFundMe that I asked them to open on my behalf and my Access bank account, is for seeking justice for Mohbad, please kindly assist us financially. That is why I opened it with the Aloba name, that is my plea, that you all help us."
While some believe he is profiting from his son's death, others have suggested that a DNA test be conducted between the late Mohbad and his father to address doubts surrounding their relationship.
