Veteran Nollywood actress Ayo Mogaji opened up about her life in a candid podcast interview with fellow actress Abiola Adebayo. Mogaji shared her journey to motherhood, health struggles, and her experience with an abusive marriage.
Mogaji revealed that she became a mother at 40, defying medical odds after losing one fallopian tube due to an ectopic pregnancy. She recounted a harrowing experience of a 7-9 hour emergency surgery, during which doctors were uncertain about her survival. "There was a time when doctors doubted if I would survive," Mogaji shared, emphasizing her faith and determination during this challenging period. Despite these obstacles, she eventually gave birth naturally, embracing motherhood later in life than most.
The actress also bravely discussed her 13-year experience in an abusive marriage. She advised, "When matrimony restricts your freedom and subjects you to abuse—physically, mentally, and emotionally—it’s essential to prioritize your well-being and safety." Mogaji expressed skepticism about reconciling with her ex-husband, citing deep-rooted issues including jealousy.
Throughout her story, Mogaji emphasized resilience, faith, and the importance of self-preservation. Her openness about these personal struggles offers a powerful message of empowerment to women facing similar challenges in relationships and motherhood.
