Veteran actor Dele Odule speaks on why he chose acting over his love for sports back then.

In an interview with EBENEZER BAJELA, veteran Nollywood actor Dele Odule shares his passion for table tennis, his love for the Super Eagles, and more.

When not acting, Odule enjoys playing table tennis, though he isn’t a professional. He explained that he isn’t a football fan, but he learned about the sport during his teacher's college education.

Aside from table tennis, Odule also played volleyball at a state level for Ogun State in the early 80s. Reflecting on his acting career, he mentioned that he couldn’t pursue both sports and acting simultaneously. His love for acting started early, even before attending teacher training college.

Odule’s love for table tennis began in childhood when he and his friends improvised with benches. He still plays occasionally, despite not having table tennis equipment at home due to his busy acting schedule.

Though not a football enthusiast, Odule supports the Super Eagles and watches their matches whenever possible. He expressed concerns about Nigeria’s reliance on overseas-based players, advocating for more home-grown talent to regain the country’s football glory.

Odule emphasized the importance of integrating sports into the school curriculum to nurture young talent. He recalled the intercollegiate events during his college days that discovered top athletes and suggested reintroducing such competitions.

Odule also reflected on how age impacts participation in sports, noting that his acting profession itself involves physical activity.

Overall, Odule’s insights highlight his dedication to both his acting career and his love for sports, particularly table tennis.
