Veteran Yoruba Actor Tajudeen Oyewole Opens Up About Heartbreaking Loss of Wife and Children

Renowned Yoruba actor Tajudeen Oyewole, popularly known as Abija, has shared the most sorrowful experience of his life: the devastating loss of his beloved wife and two children. This tragedy, he revealed, has profoundly affected his acting career and led to episodes of depression.

In a recent interview, just days after seeking financial assistance from fans during a live TikTok session, the 66-year-old actor recounted the heart-wrenching events that unfolded. He revealed that the tragic incident began days before the Sallah festival, a time meant for celebration with his family.

“The saddest moment of my life was when my beloved wife (Iya Biodun) died. It was like four days to the Sallah festival that year,” Abija recalled. He had purchased a ram for the festival and was away for a stage play in Lalupon, Iwo, and other towns. Before leaving, he prayed with his family, never imagining it would be the last time he would see his wife alive.

During the performance, Abija’s brother unexpectedly appeared and informed him that his wife was critically ill and needed an operation to survive. He suggested they leave for home before daybreak the next day, unaware that his wife had already passed away. “I was shocked to see him at the show. He told me that my wife was critically ill, and the doctor told him she needed an operation to survive the sickness. I told him (my brother) that it was too late to travel back home. I suggested we leave the location before daybreak the next day. I did not know that my wife was dead.”

The veteran actor shared the devastating moment he returned home: “Getting home, I met the corpse of my lovely wife. Meanwhile, he already announced the death of my wife to many of my colleagues at that event.”

The grief of losing his wife was further compounded by the subsequent deaths of his two daughters. Abija believes these losses were the result of a spiritual attack from a former boss with whom he had a misunderstanding during that period. “After my wife’s departure, I also lost my two beautiful daughters to death.”

This series of tragic events has left an indelible mark on Abija, affecting his mental health and career. Despite the profound grief, he continues to find strength in the support of his fans and community, holding onto the memories of his loved ones as he navigates through life’s challenges.
