Controversial Nollywood actress Laide Bakare has addressed recent allegations involving her and the BRT police, clarifying her stance in a recent podcast. In her statement, Bakare explained that she was confronted on a major road frequently used by the public, which, unbeknownst to many, is marked as a restricted route on official maps.
“That road is a common route for many people,” Bakare noted, “and it's unfair to penalize people for using it without proper public notice.”
Following the incident, she claimed she was hit with a nearly 20 million Naira tax fee, which she questioned, stating, “I always pay my taxes.” Reiterating her position, Bakare declared, “I’m not a troublemaker, but I don’t run when pushed. I’m here to defend the masses.”
She encouraged anyone who has faced similar treatment to share their stories, aiming to bring attention to public grievances and ensure justice is served. Bakare's remarks have sparked a conversation about public access to information on restricted routes and tax enforcement.
