The Nigerian film industry is in mourning following the death of acclaimed movie director Dimeji Ajibola, who passed away in the early hours of November 3 after battling an undisclosed illness. Ajibola was known for his innovative work, including the popular series Shanty Town, and was celebrated as a creative force in the entertainment sector.
A visionary in his field, Ajibola skillfully blended traditional and digital art forms across various mediums, including film, animation, visual effects (VFX), virtual worlds, and interactive media. He had a rich educational background, having studied filmmaking and cinematography at the New York Film Academy at Universal Studios, advanced character animation at Animation Mentor in San Francisco, and visual effects at VFXLearning.
Ajibola was also recognized for his 2012 urban musical film Hoodrush, which garnered multiple awards, including Best Movie at the 2012 Green Me Film Festival in Germany, Best Actor and Soundtrack at the Nollywood Movies Awards, and Best Supporting Actor at the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).
His contributions to the Nigerian film industry will be remembered, and may his soul rest in peace. Amen.
