Veteran Nollywood actress Jumoke George has opened up about her harrowing childhood experiences, struggles with divorce, and eventual reconciliation with her estranged mother. In an emotional interview on Talk to B with Biola Bayo, Jumoke revealed the deep scars left by her upbringing and failed marriage.
Childhood Ordeal
Jumoke recounted the maltreatment she endured from her stepmother, who involved her in diabolic practices to control her father. She disclosed that she was forced to assist in preparing charms for her father’s food and was treated worse than a slave.
“My stepmother sent me to a herbalist’s house at a tender age. It saddens my heart that I was the one preparing the food that had charms for my dad. You can’t even treat a slave the way I was treated,” she said.
When she tried to expose her stepmother’s actions, her father refused to believe her. Instead, he disowned her, forcing her to live a life of homelessness, squatting wherever she could.
Rejection and Homelessness
Jumoke revealed that her decision to stay with her father instead of her mother caused a rift between them. Her mother refused to take her in when she became homeless.
“I was sleeping around, on tables used for selling goods, and even in abandoned vehicles. I used safety pins to hold my bras and twine ropes to hold my pants,” she shared.
However, years later, the actress reconciled with her mother, who admitted her mistakes and asked for forgiveness, saying it was a time of ignorance and pain.
Failed Marriage
Reflecting on her failed marriage, Jumoke described her ex-husband’s abusive behavior, which worsened during her pregnancy.
“My journey with him was like moving from frying pan to fire. He would beat me publicly, even coming to movie rehearsals to assault me. At one point, we rolled down from upstairs during a fight,” she revealed.
A Story of Resilience
Despite her painful past, Jumoke George has emerged stronger, using her experiences to inspire others. Her story sheds light on the importance of resilience and the strength to overcome adversity. Fans and well-wishers have praised her courage in sharing her journey and hope her story will encourage those facing similar challenges.
