Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has publicly pledged his support for embattled singer Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley.
In a recent Instagram post, Yul Edochie shared a video of himself enjoying one of Naira Marley’s latest songs, expressing how much he missed the singer. The actor, who has often been at the center of controversies himself, welcomed Naira Marley back after the singer was heavily criticized and "cast out" by netizens over his alleged connection to the late singer Mohbad.
“My man, Naira Marley, is back. Welcome back, bro. We do miss you,” Edochie wrote.
This comes after Naira Marley defiantly addressed his critics, making it clear that he had no plans of stepping away from the music scene. He took to his Instagram stories to send a message to his haters, stating that they had failed in their attempts to bring him down. He also reaffirmed his unwavering support for his record label, Marlians, while urging his followers to remain steadfast in their faith.
Naira Marley’s reputation took a significant hit when he was linked to the tragic passing of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad. A viral video showing his associate, Sam Larry, physically assaulting Mohbad further fueled public outrage, leading to widespread calls for his cancellation.
The singer and Sam Larry were arrested and detained for over five weeks before being released on bail on November 17th, 2024. Since then, Naira Marley has engaged in several charitable activities, seemingly in an attempt to rebuild his public image and regain the trust of Nigerians.
Yul Edochie’s endorsement of the controversial singer has sparked mixed reactions online, with some supporting his stance while others remain skeptical of Naira Marley’s return to the spotlight.
