Popular Nigerian singer Portable has taken to social media to express his frustration over the Ogun State Government’s decision to seal his bar, ODOWGU.
In a post shared on Instagram, Portable revealed that the government cited "inadequate development without approval" and "insufficient airspace" as reasons for the closure. He also posted a letter and photos of the bar to back his claims.
The singer lamented that more than 20 people, including artists and customers, were detained during the operation, and their vehicles, motorcycles, and phones were confiscated. He further alleged that his newly constructed, but unfinished, building and hotel were also sealed.
Portable urged the government to reconsider its decision, explaining that the bar is not just for selling drinks but serves as a hub for booking events, promoting young talents, and providing for his family. He highlighted his contributions to the community, including installing streetlights and calling for road repairs before the government intervened.
His emotional plea has sparked reactions from fans and followers, with many urging the government to reconsider and support local businesses.
Sharing his ordeal, Portable wrote:
*"I believe in Eledumare, nobody can bring me down. They arrested over 20 people, including artists and customers, and seized cars, bikes, and phones. They also sealed my unfinished building and hotel. Why? This is my hometown, and we didn’t fight them. They even took all the drinks and food we were selling at ODOWGU Bar.
Government should look into this matter. This place is for booking events and shows, not just for drinking. I promote and help people here. I even installed streetlights and called for road repairs before the government came. Why would they do this to my property, which I use to feed my family? Later, they even came after me, but God is greater than them.”*
Fans and supporters have since flooded his comment section, calling on the government to address the issue and provide a fair resolution.
