“She Is My Blood Sister” — Actress Bukky Raji Opens Up About Strained Relationship with Remi Surutu (Video)

Nollywood Yoruba actress Bukky Raji has spoken openly about her distant relationship with her older sister, Remi Surutu, despite sharing the same father.

In a heartfelt interview with fellow actress Biola Bayo, Bukky Raji confirmed that she and Remi Surutu are blood sisters, explaining that although they have different mothers, they are both daughters of the same father. However, despite the family bond, Bukky revealed that they have no close relationship.

The actress recalled how Remi Surutu failed to attend her wedding introduction, which held in Ikorodu—despite living in the same area. According to her, she invited her sister, who initially agreed to come, but never showed up. Bukky said she made multiple efforts to reach out and reconcile, but all attempts proved futile.

"Remi Surutu is my blood sister. We share the same father. Biologically, she is my sister, but otherwise, I don't know. When I was planning my wedding introduction in Ikorodu, I invited her. She said okay, but she didn’t come. My mum made sure I called every necessary person. If she wasn’t my sister, I would’ve been her biggest fan from afar."

Bukky emphasized that the disagreements between their mothers should not affect their relationship as sisters. She said there was nothing wrong with them bonding and being on good terms.

Speaking further, Bukky Raji also addressed why she got married later in life. She said being the last born of her family played a role in her delayed marriage, along with her personal view that marriage wasn’t a priority.

"I got married late because I’m the last born of the family. My father died when I was 7, and my mother didn’t remarry. I never really saw marriage as something important."

Her emotional confession has sparked conversations online, with many praising her for her honesty and wishing her healing and peace in her family relationships.
