Veteran Yoruba actress Kudirat Abeniade, widely recognized by her fans as Mama No Network, recently opened up about a frightening incident from her early days in the Nigerian film industry.
During a candid interview, Abeniade shared details of a near-death experience that happened while she was filming in Ijebu Ode. According to her, the accident occurred while she and a friend were en route to another location to shoot a hospital scene.
“We were moving to another location for a hospital scene,” she said. “The bike wasn’t strong enough to carry two people properly. Suddenly, a trailer was approaching, and the bike man jumped off, leaving me and my friend on the bike.”
The situation escalated rapidly. “My friend performed a stunt while my head was upside down, and blood was gushing from my head and chest,” Abeniade recounted. The accident left her in a critical condition, and she considers herself lucky to have survived.
Her account brings to light the often-overlooked challenges and dangers actors face behind the scenes, especially when they are just starting out. It also highlights the urgent need for proper safety protocols on film sets, particularly during scenes that involve stunts or hazardous equipment.Despite the terrifying ordeal, Abeniade pushed through and carved a successful path in Nollywood. Today, she stands tall as a beloved icon in Yoruba cinema — her story a powerful reminder of the resilience, strength, and dedication that fuels her passion for acting.
